I almost took out the driftwood

I was going to take it out...the driftwood.
It felt too big. Too dark. Too distracting from the soft horizon I was trying to create.
But I also wanted more than just water and sky. So instead of removing it, I stepped away for a few days.
When I came back, I stopped seeing it as a problem. It was the whole point.
The driftwood wasn't competing with the sunset. It was framing it. Creating distance and scale. Giving the water somewhere to stretch out behind it.
Without the driftwood, EVENING SHORE has no sense of depth and scale. With it, there are miles of open ocean beyond that bleached gray wood.

It feels like an actual beach walk. The kind where warm sand slips between your toes when you stop to sit on the wood and take in the view.
That's what I was going for — and I almost edited it out.
