Collection: Square Wall Art: Coastal Canvas Artwork, No Rules

There's a spot on the wall and you keep walking past it. You've thought about it for a year. Maybe two. It's the wall between the kitchen and the dining room, or the one above the console table you bought thinking it would solve the entryway and didn't, quite. It needs something. It doesn't need a rectangle.

Square wall art works in the wall space that rectangles don't quite fit right.. Above a console table that's deeper than it is wide. On a side wall where a horizontal piece would crowd. In a stairwell, an office, small gallery walls where you want one shape to anchor the rest. The square format has equal sides, which means visual balance shows up without you doing anything to earn it - a sense of order that just happens.

What you'll find here is original art — gallery-quality coastal canvas prints that hold the warm sand and the whoosh of the waves and the smell of the air on the wall in front of you. No decor rules. No 57-inch standard. Hang the size you love in the spot you love it. The only person who has to feel something when she looks at it is you.

Striped Beacon is the perfect piece to start with.

Where does square wall art look best?

Square coastal art is the newest format in the collection, so the size range is intentionally focused right now. Most square pieces are available in 10x10; a small square that works beautifully as part of a gallery wall, on a side wall, or above a console where a larger piece would crowd — a perfect fit for those in-between spots.

Striped Beacon also comes in 12x12, and a few larger square prints are on the way - check back for new arrivals as the collection grows. You'll see the size options and price on each product page. If you're between sizes, the bigger one is almost always the right answer. Small art is the most common decor regret I hear about.

What is the 2/3 rule for hanging art?

The 2/3 rule says your art should be about two-thirds the width of the furniture below it...so a 60-inch sofa "should" get a 40-inch piece above it. It's a fine starting point. It's also a rule, and rules get repeated until they sound like laws.

Here's the version I'd actually use: hang the size you love in the spot you'll see every day. If a square piece that's smaller than the rule says feels right above your console, hang it. If a large square artwork that breaks the proportion makes your living space feel like yours, hang that. The rule is a suggestion. Your wall, your call.

What sizes do you offer in square coastal art?

Every square piece on this page comes in the same standardized size ladder, from smaller square compositions that work as part of a gallery wall to large squares that anchor a room on their own. You'll see the size options on each product page, with the price for each. If you're between sizes, the bigger one is almost always the right answer — small art is the most common decor regret I hear about.
