Walk into the canvas? Why this pier feel surprisingly 3D

I almost scrapped this one.
Not every piece I create makes it to the finish line. Some never quite feel right, and eventually, I let them go.

Peaceful Walk almost became one of those pieces.

The colors felt off. A few areas were not working. I did not like it—and I seriously considered starting over.

But I really loved the way the pier rails start far apart, then seem to pull closer together as they disappear toward the water. So I kept working on it.

The part that finally made the scene come together was the pier. Its rails start wide near you, then move closer together as they disappear toward the water. Your eye follows that path almost automatically.

That is called converging parallels—but I think of it as the pier giving your eye somewhere to go. It creates the depth that makes the canvas feel less like a view of the ocean and more like a place you could step into.

Once I got to colors I loved, the whole thing clicked for me.

I finally love the colors, the depth, and that quiet feeling of standing near the water while the rest of the world feels far away. The ocean seems to wrap around you for a minute and give you a break from the busy-ness.

Sometimes, the best things are the ones we almost let slip away.
